MACWORLD EXPO: WWDC 2008

by Pierre Baltadano

As early as around 1:30 PM yesterday, the first person lined up for Apple, Inc. CEO Steve Jobs' Keynote address that went on today at 10:00 AM.

There were announcements and demos regarding the iPhone Applications Store and the many developers that have een working on new programs that will be available for download soon. Games were demo'd along with new apps that tap into "new" location finding features in the iPhone and some other more boring apps showed up too. Boring to non-nerds.

There was also an announcement for a new Apple service called mobileme, which is replacing their .mac service. This new service is sync-crazy! Photos, files, mail, contacts, calenders, etc. are capable of push, or instant, updating, meaning that all your devices will be on the same page; the lappy, the iPhone, and the home computer. As Apple stated, it's "Exchange for the rest of us." All existing .mac users can transition over for free and others will pay the same as .mac, $99.00 a year (if you are getting a computer, consider buying mobileme then cause its cheaper that way). Still boring for most non-nerds I guess.

New iPhone! This time, it is a bit thinner, slightly curvier, almost-Wi-Fi fast, better battery life, GPS. AND, it's cheaper...$199 cheap for the 8GB version - the first 8GB iPhone was $599 and then $399.00! The 16GB model will also come in white and retail for $299.00. The bummer for me...no 32GB capacity, same camera without flash, and no front facing camera for video chatting (it's shown up in the patents so we should see it at some point). The iPhone 3G will be available July 11, throughout 22 countries.

EXCLUSIVE! SO I HEARD THE STORK IS COMIN TO AN "ANGEL"...

So I've heard rumblings that one of Charlie's Angels has been knocked up with a little Apple-seed of her own...WHO might that be? Well it'll be hitting the interwebs soon but you'll hear it here first! You see, it has come to my attention that it is non other than Hollywood royalty Drew Barrymore, who's been recently linked to Justin Long, that is being added to Hollywood's growing list of expecting mothers. If that isn't some shit y'all then I don't know what is. Stay tuned, as this could be an interesting addition to the Barrymore Dynasty, dontcha think?

… MACBOOK AIR… THIN AND SEXY…AS A PROPER HOLLYWOOD STARLET SHOULD BE…

At today’s Macworld Conference and Expo Keynote, Apple Inc.’s Steve Jobs announced several updates to its product line. From a wireless back-up drive/router (for over-the-air backups and home Wi-Fi) called Time Capsule, to iPhone and iPod Touch updates, and AppleTV updates for over-the-air iTunes purchasing and movie rentals, but the highlight of the show was the unveiling of the MacBook Air.

“It’s the world’s thinnest notebook,” says Steve Jobs.

The MacBook Air has a black, back-lit keyboard, is super, super thin (.16 inches at it’s thinnest and .76 inches at its thickest), weighs in at 3 pounds, and it has an LED backlit 13.3-inch widescreen display that’s instant-on. Like all Apple laptops, it also has a built-in iSight camera, but unlike all other laptops, the MacBook Air has a trackpad with multi-touch gesture support, the same technology that can be found in the iPhone and iPod Touch. The MacBook Air has reduced so much of the size due to small hidden ports (USB 2.0, mini DVI, and a Headphone jack) but also because it has removed the CD/DVD Drive. This might upset some people, but with iTunes (Music, TV Shows, Movie Rentals), a wireless back-up drive/Wi-fi router combo, and the ability to “borrow” another computer’s CD/DVD drive or the option to buy an external MacBook Air SuperDrive, Apple feels that they have made the right choices.

The other great thing about the MacBook Air...it has gotten rid of many harmful materials that usually go into computers and uses a aluminum case to make it a very "green" machine.

You can pre-order the new MacBook Air now with prices starting at $1,799 and with the first shipments beginning in two weeks.
