FORESKIN IS THE NEW BLACK ...

by Pierre Baltadano

In cruising around the virtual metropolis that is the Internet, I ran into a small blurb on the website of Indesign magazine about Australian fashion designer/artist Sruli Recht.

There wasn’t much content in Indesign’s little posting about Recht, but the Reykjavik-based artist’s experience in the studio of Alexander McQueen, a reference to shoes made for "throat-cutting thieves, and with a look akin to a mythological faun, he definitely caught my attention.

I always love insight into the minds of designers of any kind and Sruli Recht was definitely an interesting one. In navigating his site you can view many distinct pieces that are, without a doubt, a reflection of this artist storytelling imagination and design process. From face-covering capes, to a leather corrective brace, to minke dork (mink whale foreskin) shoes, Recht’s range of exploration in form, materials, and overall design shows up in a more whimsical, storybook way that makes me think of old age explorers and gangs of abandoned streets kids of a distant future.

hmmm... I've just bored myself with myself so instead...Check out his MySpace page or website for more on Recht’s wild mind.
